Site review: H&M’s Virtual Dressing Room

In H&M’s Virtual Dressing Room, you can try on the summer Poolside Collection before you plunk down the plastic, using a personalized cyber-model. It’s a great tool for the fashion-hungry who hate real, live dressing rooms. The “My Hairstyle” feature produced coifs that were more natural-looking than the usual Carol Channing look that similar versions come up with. However, I’d like to see more items online (I counted fewer than 35.) And I couldn’t help but wonder, “Am I really this thin?” Just before I could yell, “Go ‘head with your bad cyber-self” and leap with glee, I realized it’s likely a strategic move for H&M to keep the model looking streamlined. Heh, they have to sell some clothes, right? If you’re looking for a general idea of how smashing you’ll look in that floral-print bikini top and hipster, check this one out. You’ll be satisfied, well, virtually.
