SheFinds News: Subzero, Not Just a Refrigeration Term

Media has been sending out some pretty mixed messages. At the same time we’re being told how fat we are collectively getting, we’re being visually assaulted images of rail thin models and actresses (see above) vehemently denying anorexia, while we’re counting their ribs though couture dresses. Plus sizes have been available for years, so is it just a natural progression for designers to cater to people on the other end of the spectrum? Banana Republic and Nicole Miller think so, which is why in the near future, you’ll be able to purchase items in “doublezero” and “subzero” sizes. The concept itself is pretty gross, less than nothing does not seem positive or even possible. The question is, who is really going to be wearing, or aspiring to wear these clothes? Will it be the naturally petite women for whom the clothes are supposedly designed for? Or will it be the hordes of Nicole Ritchie wannabe’s scouring the pages of US Weekly for diet tips?

Trying the “Tiny Trend?” bananarepublic.com already offers a variety of items in a double zero, including Dark faded boot-cut jean, and this Silk strapless ruched dress. Check out these Nicole Miller dresses at Nordstrom.comicon Soon they’ll be sized for microscopic waists!
