Beauty Find: Ferro Mineral Cosmetics Make Going Chem-Free Pretty

What: Ferro Mineral Cosmetics

Why:  After I read Skinny Bitch, I went through a brief period where I attempted to eat only organic, good-for-me, warm and fuzzy foods. But then I eventually returned to the world of Hot Pockets and Diet Coke. And I realized that it was much easier (and less expensive) to monitor what I put ON my face as opposed to in it.

Why not be good to your skin? After all, it is your largest organ. Ferro Cosmetics offers a stunning array of mineral makeup that will take you from a sun-kissed bronzed goddess to a color-drenched girl-about-town. All that, and it is guaranteed to have absolutely no bismouth, talc, or other known irritants that other mineral companies sometimes use. In fact, Ferro has made a pledge with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. In doing, it has agreed to follow strict regulations about what goes into the makeup on your smiling faces.  (Did anyone else watch that Dateline about lead in lipstick?)

But, the true test of any makeup line is: Will this make me look hot? And Ferro definitely rises to the occassion. I've been waiting for my movers and sleeping on a wooden floor in a sleeping bag with a pillow (and by pillow I mean a plastic bag stuffed with bubble wrap) for nine days. Basically, without makeup I look like whatever lunges out of the mirror when you repeat "Bloody Mary" three times in a dark bathroom.

But Ferro definitely worked some David Copperfield-type magic. It's easy to apply, light, in natural hues, and very versatile. The eye shadows can be used as a brow filler, or with a wet brush as a liner. And they all have just the perfect amount of sparkle. So you end up looking less like a stripper on her smoke break and more like a well painted sophisticate.

All-in-all, I'd give Ferro my consumer dollar for quality, ethics, and all important aesthetics.
