Boo Hoo: What to Wear If You’re Skinny

Wrap DressThe Mirror, the English newspaper that's more tabloid than world happenings, reaffirmed its commitment to skinny women and those who obsess about them with an article devoted to "What to wear if you're skinny." That's an easy one — just about everything! What can't obnoxiously thin women wear? They suggest the skinnies stay away from wrap dresses and leave them to the "curvy" people. Oh, and models should avoid the color black, too. You wouldn't want to disappear now, would you?

For those whose days of wearing a size 0 were reserved to when they were 12 (if ever), there are a few things to be salvaged from the article… simply take everything they say and do the opposite, which leaves you with about as much good advice as models have fat on their bones. For the skinnies, they recommend large prints and pleats; anyone above a size 2 knows those styles are best left on the racks. A pencil skirt with a flair at the hem? Please, the average woman knows those scream 'hips', 'hips', 'hips' with fervor.

Perhaps I'm being too hard on the perils of being model thin in today's society? Still, how often does a skinny wander into the plus size section and sigh, "Oh, I wish this came in my size?"

What do you think? Leave us a comment with your weight beefs! If you're thin, is it really that hard to look good? Or do you face just as much trouble dressing as the average, size 12 woman?

Great post. I think we all have our trouble spots regardless of size. As a size 8, I think I can wear anything that fits my style and body type and I don’t really care if others think I look “fat”. Thin women do look great in just about anything, but many have their challenges as well (my size 0 sis wishes she had bigger boobs and more curves). So, live and let live – skinny girls need love and attention too.

As a college student who’s a 00/000, I can tell you that being thin isn’t always the greatest thing in the world. My waist is so small that I’m a size 8-10 in little girls’. This means if I try to buy shorts, they’re VERY short, and jeans are next to impossible. It took me half of a year to find a pair of slacks that almost fit. It’s frustrating because I am unable to even own nice professional pieces because they don’t make them in my size. Honestly, I’d give a lot just to be a size 2!

Dahlings, as a luscious plus-size woman, I find it hard to pity the wardrobe problems of the underfed. Particularly as I have just survived Fashion Week. Day after day of watching those starving, miserable heroin-addicted teenagers stagger down the runways made me long for Godiva. Ugh! I’m sure the whole article was an insane and misguided attempt to be provocative. Tabloids are, all after all, provacateurs, and provocateurs are, as always, the least interesting and least original people in the world. But don’t tell them that; they’ll want to talk about it.

If they were trying to do something for the super-petite, or the plus but short, then they’d really have caught an under-acknowledged population.
