Is Your Lipstick Giving You Lead Poisoning?
We knew there was cause for concern last week when we found out that women absorb over five pounds of chemicals from their makeup. A new test recently showed that some of the most popular brands of lipstick – Cover Girl, L’Oreal, and Dior – contained lead. Yikes!
It’s no surprise that you ingest some of your lipstick – it’s right there on your lips. But this discovery is pretty frightening because who wants to be inhaling lead? Not me. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics tested 33 brand name red lipsticks and of that bunch, “one-third…contained an amount of lead that exceeded the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 0.1 ppm limit for lead in candy.”
The strange thing is, not all lipsticks tested had lead in them. Revlon for example, had no detectable traces of lead whereas Christian Dior had quite a bit.
