How to Choose an Organic Shampoo

With so many choices in the green aisles at your local grocer’s, going organic is not always easy, especially when you’re used to using run-of-the-mill shampoos and conditioners.

Philip Pelusi, the owner of Tela salon in New York City, offers some tips on finding the perfect organic shampoo.

1. Read the ingredients: Choose products free of harsh parabens and always avoid sodium laurel sulfate. Borage oil, horsetail, white tea and rosemary are some of the most recognizable organic ingredients known to moisturize, strengthen and regenerate the hair and scalp.

2. Understand the lingo: It’s only truly organic if it has the USDA Organic Certified or Certified Organic label.

3. Keep it up: Organic shampoos and conditioners are good for you and the planet, offering all the needs of your hair and scalp without polluting water or soil. Plus, most organic hair products also contain important anti-oxidants to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy.

Here are some SheFinds quick picks to start with: john masters organics Evening Primrose Shampoo, for Dry Hair, Aubrey Organics Glycerin Protein Balancing Shampoo, All Hair Types and Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo. Other great organic brands to check out are Kiss My Faceicon and Avedaicon.

I accidently went to the Made from Earth skin care website when looking for something for my research paper, and it was one of the best accidents i ever had. I tried their Organic Tea & Protein Shampoo and loved it….It has a great scent and is gentle on my scalp. Compared to the $30-40i I used to spend on organic shampoo this is an even match at a cheaper price. Best for use to make your hair fuller and fresher….

I tried the Made from Earth Tea and Protein Shampoo, and it DOES NOT have a very strong fragrance which I like – because it doesn’t have any synthetic perfumes. Everything your smelling is from organic raw ingredients. I happen to like it a lot. I’m also happy to note that it leaves my hair feeling silky and not frizzy like it usually is. Highly recommended for healthy women…
