If You’ve Got All That Money, Why Show Your Roots?

image

Now, really–if you're Jessica Simpson or Sienna Miller, you clearly have both the money and the motivation to make regular appointments with your colorist. Running around with an obvious couple of inches of touch-up needed seems, well, lazy, doesn't it?

Or does it? According to the L.A. Times, showing your roots is the newest way for celebs to "feign indifference to your appearance." (As though any of them actually don't care how they look.) Stories abound of well-heeled starlets actually paying for lowlights that give the appearance of darker growth so they can achieve that too-cool-to-care look.

To speak honestly, we are perplexed. Sure, we sport the roots, too, but only because we lack the free time and unlimited budget required to keep our color in perfect shape. Hand us a multi-million dollar bank account and a fabulous stylist at our beck and call, and you can be damn sure we'd be the picture of Bergdorf Blonde perfection all the time. Honestly, it's just irritating to see rich girls slumming it so they can drum up a little more street cred. Could this also be why similarly moneyed women like Ms. Paltrow can be seen schlepping around in beat up UGGs

When I first saw this photo I thought perhaps she’d lost her mind, but now I think maybe she’s trying the David Lynch muse look; you know – blond hair w/ roots, dark eyebrows, red lips? Even so, it never worked that well except as a bizarro character type.
