Masstige Preview: Erin Fetherston for Target
Erin Fetherston’s designs are typically whimsical, girly, ultra-feminine, but also clearly couture. Her line for Target’s “GO. International Flights of Fashion” is a simplified, cleaner rendition of her frothy, fairy-like Spring ’07 collection and definitely plays well to the masses albeit with an over-the-top sugary coating that is more doll-like than human (the platinum blonde wigs don’t help dim the effect). Still, we think that with the right personality (charm and spunk not optional) this collection just might find its way into the hearts of many a fashionista this fall.

The black velvet blazer and matching pants are right on key with fall’s menswear trend that everyone is gushing over, plus the look can appeal to most people thanks to its classic feel and reasonable price ($45 for the jacket and $40 for the pants). These two staple pieces along with some of the basic black tops and sweaters will probably be the most popular, versatile and wearable pieces from the collection.
As for the dresses, which are all quite adorable, they tend to be more adequate for college students thanks to the uber-short hems and super girly aura they all exude. Of all the options, we’re thinking that this creamy, tiered chiffon number ($45) will be the most likely to make it into a more mature woman’s closet. Pair it with tall brown boots, a classy trench and big girl accessories to make the look work.
Finally, the long ivory wool coat ($90) with a voluminous body, banded drop hem and fabulous details on the cuffs and around the collar, is definitely a fresh and unique piece that lends something special to the collection. If it’s made well, it may just be one of the coolest pieces from the line.
That’s our take. What’s your opinion? Feel free to rant and rave about Erin Fetherston’s dolly dresses and cutesy creations in the comments section.
