What: Simply Vera by Vera Wang for Kohl's .
Why: Vera Wang has signed up to do what seems to be the growing trend for hot designers: create affordable fashion for discount stores (like Isaac Mizrahi and Rafe for Target, and Lela Rose and Abaete for Payless). The scheme is a great way to make your name known to the masses and to put money in your pocket to finance couture lines.
Many have expressed dismay at the notion of Wang designs on the cheap, wondering if her trademark hems and cuts will carry the same fluidity in a material like cotton — the horror! Honestly, when has there been anything wrong with cotton? I think the designs are beautiful, and even thought they’re a value they’re definitely not cheap.
The line packs all of our fall favorites into the classic looks of Vera Wang, including brocade skirts and coats, frilly cardigans and blouses, fur-accented hats, and, one of my favorite accents for this fall, elbow-length gloves. That's not all Vera's up to with Kohl's , though; she's also put her good fashion sense to work on a home line avalable exclusively to Kohl's.
The line is set to debut September 9th, and will range in price from $18 to $135. Catch a first glimpse below, check out the advertisements running in September Vogue, InStyle, and O (the Oprah magazine), and be sure to hit your local store on the 9th for first pick.

The Simply Vera ads are also in the September Cosmopolitan and what is great about the advertisements are that all the pieces shown are also detailed with names and prices so you can know what to expect when you go to Kohl’s. I think this fall line will be a hit because many of the pieces can be work classic but still romantic enough for date/Friday night.
I went to check out the new Vera line at Kohl’s yesterday and it is a huge disappointment. Everything is made with cheap materials, and as a result a lot of the detailing ends up looking cheap.
aside from a few total duds (like the SV logo purses), the collection is really lovely. casual elegance. very versatile.
before you judge, try the items on. they look much better on you than on the hanger.
the prices are comparable to anything you’d find in any mall store or department store. just cuz a designer does a budget line doesn’t mean they’ll be handing out clothes for free :)
I bought a couple of items from the line, I thought there were some cute stuff. The handbags looked really cheap, though. The scarves and gloves just looked like anything else that Kohl’s would carry so I was dissapointed in that.
