Purse Patrol: Paris Spring 2008 In The Bag

imageParis Fashion Week Spring 2008 certainly had its highlights. Chanel gave us lots of denim (and of course, those questionable ankle wallets). Christian Dior bombarded us with black and white, while Louis Vuitton bestowed a quintessentially springtime palette upon us. But surprise, surprise, the standout on the French runways earlier this month wasn’t the clothes, or even the women wearing them. No, this season the handbags took centerstage.

In addition to the aforementioned ankle wallets, the women at Chanel were seen with everything from oversized clutches to metallic shoulder bags in tow. The ladies of Christian Dior toted large baguettes and at Louis Vuitton, big, colorful bowler bags stole the show.

As much as I love playing guess that bag such and such celeb was carrying (not really), I was glad to see purses on the catwalk. Not only does it make my job a little easier (thank you designers!), but more importantly I love to see how designers put together an entire outfit, accessories and all, and then put it into action. Not that I’m able to afford any of the bags that graced the runways, but hey, they were inspirational if nothing else.

Unfortunately, all of you lucky gals who can afford Louis and Dior and Chanel will have to wait a while longer for those runway looks. Enjoy these in the meantime, though. The rest of us will just admire…or check out eBay or our new favorite site, Portero.
