Rag Bag: Tell Us How You Like Your Mags

Cocktail, the newest Hearst venture, is apparently an answer to the monthly magazines you just can’t find time for, like COSMO or VOGUE. In a recent interview with AdAge, publisher Alexandra Heatly said of the more sporadic fashion magazines, “I get so excited when it gets there, then it sits on my coffee table and I never get to it. This is something that’s going to have beauty, fashion, relationship info, but it’s going to be every week.”

There’s something to be said for a one-commute read; you never have that doctor’s-office feeling of having read the same magazine five days in a row, and weeklies are a lot better at getting you the gossip before it’s yesterday’s punch line. On the other hand, that’s a lot of pressure for a publication that tries to be a Reader’s Digest take on InStyle and Cosmo, who have the budget to make every month count and don’t run the risk of fluffing the mag with filler.
