SheFinds Asks You: Are Revamped Stirrups Hot or Not?

image

When I was in fifth grade, I had the coolest pair of Limited Too knit stirrup pants. Paired with an oversized sweater, they were my go-to when I wanted to feel cute (we won't talk about the scrunched-down socks and pacifier necklace with which I accessorized.)

Quite a few years later, I'm not so sure stirrup pants are a stellar idea. They're even less forgiving than the now-ubiquitous skinny jeans, and I'm not totally buying that they elongate legs that much.

But, alas, stirrups are back in vogue, this time in the form of jeans by 7 for all Mankind ($168 @ eLuxury) and tailored trousers from Bebe ($129). Gone are the comfy knits of my elementary school days. The fabrics of today's stirrups are stretchy, sure, but not something I'd be willing to wedge myself into for a perceived extra inch or two. Bebe does redeem itself slightly by offering a sleek hidden stirrup ($129). These tailored pants don't scream "I'm auditioning for the sequel to Flashdance!" but, on the other hand, what's the point if you can't see the stirrup anyway?

What do you think? Are you ready to get back into the saddle and squeeze into a pair of remodeled stirrups, or do you think '80s trends are best left in the pages of your junior high yearbook? Our friends at Style Dash, who tipped us off to the trend, are in favor of the latter. Let us know your stance in the comments section below.

I had that same outfit from The Limited in 5th grade. It was my second favorite after my stirrup pants/oversize Esprit sweater combo. Can’t say that I’m excited about the return of the stirrup pant.

    Stirrups belong at the gynecologist.

I always loved stirrup pants and am glad they are back. From casual to dressy they were an important part of my wardrobe back then. Now I can drag out all my old ones and be the “retro” lady

Mother liked them a lot when I was a kid, so stirrups were my only pants. I got used to wearing them all the time – except when I had to wear a dress to a fancy occasion. So, I’m happy to they’re back in style (sort of)! I’ve seen a few girls wearing them…amd I’ve bought several pairs myself. They’re strictly for casual, though. I’m not a trail blazer, so, no stirrups and heels to work! At least not till some of the other girls pave the way…and I doubt that’ll happen!
