SheFinds Asks You: What’s Your Take on Proposed Visible-Underwear Bans?
Back in July, we asked you to sound off on visible bra straps and the great suggestions—Nu Bra, bras with clear or studded straps—came rolling in. Let's hope you've got some equally stellar alternatives for covering up visible boxers and thongs, because some cities, most notably Atlanta, are considering making bared bras and peek-a-boo panties illegal.
Atlanta Councilman C.T. Martin sponsors a proposed amendment to the city's indecency laws, hoping it will target teens who "half-dress" in saggy pants or revealing tops. "Little children see it and want to adopt it, thinking it's the in thing," Martin told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
But some people aren't so supportive. The ACLU of Georgia points out that the ordinance would prevent women from jogging in sports bras, and that even panty lines could potentially result in a fine or jail time (Delcambre, La., which has a similar ordinance in place, imposes a $500 fine or six months in jail for underwear overexposure). Others say the ordinance couldn't be enforced fairly because it targets "a cultural phenomenon that came out of the black youth culture."
What's your take on the issue? Are you sick of seeing everyone's unmentionables, or do you fear for your freedom to flash (even if the flashing's only accidental)? Is there a happy medium here? Give us your spin by leaving a comment.
