A Flat-Out Attack — On Your Stilettos (gasp)!

It's official (well sort of, anyway): "flats are in and platforms are out" according to luxury consultant Robert Burke. And for women all around the world, the ballet flat trend is quite literally a relief. For a few seasons now, ballet flats have been knocking away at the stilettos' top slot on the shoe hierarchy and according to USA Weekend, the reign of flats is (finally) here. Just look at how Tory Burch's Reva flats have basically become a cultural phenomenon – women wear them with everything not to mention the number of copycat versions out there.

As much as I love flats for their comfort, I have to admit I'm still a sucker for heels. Call me old-fashioned, but no matter how many bells and whistles a flat has, it will never be as sexy (and empowering) as a stiletto.

I suppose it doesn't have to be an either or question, though. Both styles have their place, so it's only right the flats get their time to shine. Check out these fabulous styles:

What do you think? Are you all about flats or are you still committed to your heels?

Although I’m normally in high heels day in and day out, I’m having a “flats day” today. For some reason the little dark red patent numbers I’m wearing were calling out from my closet this morning.

Ugh. Bad choice. I blame it on sleep deprivation. It’s only 12:30 here in SF and I’m already in a fit of flats-induced depression. I feel short, dowdy, and about 12 years old. It will be back to 4″ heels come tomorrow morning.

I hear you Stiletto Jungle. I work in an office where just about every woman is 5ft8 and over and are all always in heels. At 5ft even I need 4 inch heels just to keep up. One day last week I had a flats day as well and regretted it from the minute I got into the office and saw that my 6ft2 coworkers belly button was about at my chin level. Sigh…….
