The emblematic plaid print that has been Burberry’s defining look for years is getting the knife says Business Week. The ubiquitous camel, red, white and black plaid appeared on everything from umbrellas to bikinis during their Golden Age, but copyright infringements skyrocketed in the face of its undying popularity. It wasn’t long before the knock-offs diminished Burberry’s spotlight — as well as their sales.
Their solution? In efforts to rebuild their once exclusive luxury status, Burberry is toning down the use of the signature check print, which will now be reserved for the inners of trench coats, handbags, hats, etc, and emphasizing their luxury Prorsum collection instead. Expect a lot more of Burberry’s essence to resurface, like clean lines, simple prints, and high-end accessories — all sans the plaid print.
In parting, get your fill with some select items that still don the beloved Burberry check.
