SheFinds September Issue Spotlight: Vogue’s Fabulous Furs

imageimage

The Trend: Fabulous fall furs in Vogue.

How to Wear It: Fur is deliciously soft, luxuriously warm and undeniably chic. It speaks of old world class and irrefutable prestige. Oddly enough, designers like Versace are flashing fur in vibrant cobalt blue for their Fall '07 ad campaign and Prada shocked most of us with a hideous faux take that looks more like a rug than a coat. Even with the pitfalls of this trend, I'm not willing to write it off as a miss. Lots of designers are fur-tastic for fall, and it's undoubtedly the most extravagant fashion piece of the season.

The trend doesn't stop at coats, as evidenced by this Christian Louboutin Orylag Hobo, going for $3,900 at Saks or these divine goat fur 'Skandia' Boots by Tecnica selling for $360 at Nordstrom. Wearing fur as an accessory rather than as a centerpiece is an easier way to wear the trend, and somewhat less expensive. You could easily throw on this Prada Fur and Nylon Haticon (down to $299.99 from $750 @ Overstock.com) and call it a day.

Our Picks: Although fur is undeniably expensive, we found a few alternatives that are (relatively) more affordable and worth a look. There's this cute Juicy Couture cropped trench with a rabbit fur collar ($498 @ eLUXURY.com) or this Andrew Marc brandy leather 'Sly' fur trim jacket ($525 @ Bluefly.com) that features a removable collar that can be worn on its own. For the fur queasy, try a faux fur bomber from Juicy Couture ($350 @ Nordstrom.com).

Hasn’t this trend been going on for like five years now? The boots in particular look terribly dated. I think fur looks cute on a live animal but evil and cruel on a stupid woman. Give it a rest and leave the skin on the animals. Your karma will thank you for it.

Fur makes you look fat and selfish.

Please don’t promote fur anymore, it really makes me want to unsubscribe. You even put down the one thing that you mentioned was faux. Seriously why promote senseless cruelty?

With nature dwindling at an alarming rate, the last thing I want to see is fur on anything but the original owner, the animal. This is so grimly Cruella Deville! This is vulgar, lazy design.
