I’m not out of shape (round is a shape), I just have about 30 lbs. to lose. And I don’t want to wear tent dresses until I reach my target weight. So how does a fashionable gal create the illusion of having shed a few pounds? First, don’t hide your assets. If you’ve got nice legs, flaunt ‘em in knee-length skirts. And then strategically use navy, black, charcoal gray or other darker shades on areas you want to de-emphasize. Don’t be afraid to wear body-conscious outfits, but avoid overly tight or clingy clothing or fabrics, unless they’re bodyshapers or control top pantyhose. (See our shapewear guide for more great tummy tucking and bust-lifting finds.) Also avoid busy prints and excessively embellished clothing. And accessorize, accessorize! It draws attention to your face.

Heavier on the bottom? Pair a light colored top with darker colors on the bottom.
