Short Shorts: Hot or Not?
![]()
I understand summer is coming. Note the gerund in that sentence; it’s in the process of gracing us with its presence, yet still it’s not quite here. Now while some lucky ladies live in warm climates where 70 degrees in April is normal, New York City is so far from that reality, it’s not even funny. So when I walk down 5th Avenue, the last thing I expect to see are women donning über-short shorts (mind you these are by no means young and skinny little things, either). Granted, shorts are not my forté even in summer, thanks to my inherent ‘thunder thighs,’ but really, this has gone too far.
Shorts in 30 degrees is simply not okay. Sure, some gals can get away with it when the mercury rises, like Mischa Barton in her J & Company Pinstripe Beverly Shorts… but she’s A) a young, thin celebrity, and B) in L.A., far from the chilly winds of the Northern hemisphere. In fact, I think they look really cute on her with those slouchy boots. But there needs to be some sort of law against this insanity I’ve witnessed this week. I say, no shorts unless it’s at least 60 to 70 degrees out and if you’ve got decent legs.
What do you say? When is it okay to bring out the shorts? Give us your thoughts.
Update: Due to popular demand (short shorts are indeed considered hot) here are some places to score Mischa’s shorts and other stuff from J & Company:

* J&Company.com: Jeans
* Ebay.com: Everything from jeans to minis to shorts
* PandJStyleWorx.com: Ocean Jean Shorts
