Site Review: Thrift Stores Go Virtual

We're living in the internet age, so we try to keep as much of our lives virtual as possible.  Groceries, travel, fashion, beauty–nearly everything we want or need we buy with a quick click of the mouse.  But thrift store shopping remains one of the few things we actually leave our homes to do.  Right?  Wrong.  Thrift shops have caught up with the rest of us, and now even Goodwill offers their goods online.

A recent search of items on auction turned up a vintage fur coat (current bid, $105), a 34" Becky Thatcher cultured pearl necklace (current bid, $160), and a black Ralph Lauren bag (current bid, $46).  Sure, nothing is likely to arrive in brand-new condition, but with these great prices, who can complain?  

We're keeping our fingers crossed this trend continues.  NYC's famed Housing Works Thrift Shops have also launched their own website, complete with shots of the most coveted items that grace each shop's window display.  And Goodwill is also planning an upgrade of their own site.  If this trend continues, we may never leave home again…
