Twiggy No More: Plus Size Mannequins, Plus Size Style

We blinked, we rubbed our eyes, we switched from glasses to contacts. But, yes, we read this correctly. Retailers have begun to replace skinny-minny mannequins with more realistic shapes.

Could this be a start of a new trend? As the fashion industry continues to react to new weight requirements for models, maybe the boutique crowd will also change their tune. With stylish stars like America Ferrera and Jennifer Hudson blazing a new path, we certainly hope so. For now, here are a few of our favorite styles for curvier gals:

Designer Monif C. has dressed all the plus-size stars and worked with top glossies like Essence, Marie Claire, and Latina. We think her sassy Janine Beaded Party Dress ($245) offers a nice blend of sexiness and sophistication for a holiday cocktail party or a big night out.

Nordstrom also has their own plus-size section with great denim options, including these uber-hip bootcut jeans ($198) from Paige Denim.

For cozy yet flattering sweaters, we like Old Navy's Cross-Front Cashmere ($79.50), available in five colors. They're on sale now, so buy one of each!
