Website Wish List: We Want H&M Online

Store: H&M

Why it's great: Those of us lucky enough to live near franchises of this fantastic department store know it for its cheap-but-chic takes on trendy clothing for men, women and children. Affordable shoes, handbags, outerwear, lingerie and jewelry make this a one stop shop for people who want to look like they just stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine, but who aren't quite on a Vogue or Elle budget.

Unfortunately, if you don't live near a physical H&M, you're out of luck. There are plenty of tempting goodies on the store's website, but the ability to purchase H&M wares isn't one of them.

What you get: While you can't add that $29 sequined sheath to your online shopping cart, you can find out when it and other holiday looks hit store shelves. You can also watch a ton of H&M-centric videos: check out the current collection in the Divided Young Trend montage, drool over affordable and wearable specialty lines from designers like Roberto Cavalli, or take tours of the world's fashion capitols with H&M spokesmodels. Page through an online copy of H&M Magazine or, perhaps most frustrating of all, create a virtual model in the dressing room application and try on the all the fab clothes you can't purchase. You can even buy a Sims 2 H&M Fashion Stuff video game package that allows simulated you to dress in H&M gear.

For a company that's so techno-savvy, it's amazing that only a few lucky countries, including Austria, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands, get access to online shopping and shipping. According to the Shop H&M portion of the site, there aren't plans to expand online shopping access to the U.S., but the site encourages us to "pay a quick visit to this site from time to time" to keep up with what's going on with H&M stateside.

I second this wish. I would love to purchase H & M clothes online, but perhaps the “limited availability” concept is what the marketing team is going for. After all, “unattainable” items often generate more buzz and excitement…

  2. SheFindsErin says:

I agree, but H&M;’s mission seems to be to bring affordable, quality fashion to the masses. Where better to serve the masses than on the web? I live and work near two H&M;stores, but I’d still rather buy online than brave the Chicago cold and the Michigan Ave. crowds!

  3. SheFindsHenley says:

The other problem with not having online shopping is that plenty of the “masses” don’t live anywhere near an H&M;store. Even the super high-end designers are more accessible than they are. C’mon, H&M;!

  4. michelle says:

I don’t buy the limited availability thing – I mean forever 21 puts their stuff online!

  5. Stephanie says:

Come on, H & M! I always see the banner ads alongside this website and I would love to be able to “click and buy.”

h&m;has stores in most of the main cities in the us.
even in winsconsin but yet none in dallas?
and even though texas has a bad rep of being red neck…dallas is a major shopping city. we do have the ORIGINAL neimans do we not?
so its a little strange and annoying theres not a store here.

  7. Rebecca says:

Tried to pull up a coupon for 20% off on any item but couldn’t get it to print.

  8. gaby says:

h&m;is very popular and trendy clothes in my city!it is cheap but makes your look chic and beutiful!i will recommended it for every one to by!

  9. Giana says:

Yes, Why advertise H & M im so many magazines in America if we’re unable to purchase the clothing unless we are lucky to have the store in our city?

  10. Ali says:

I really really wish they would as well! I live in Nashville,TN and I will probably not be going to a major city with an H&M anytime soon (and what I want wouldn’t be guarenteed to be there by them). I second the comment about their advertisements in magazines. They’re reaching a lot of people who can’t reach them. False hope is no fun.
