Winter Workout Wear: Let’s Not Skirt the Issue Of Style

imageYes, the winter weather is making its annual not-so-subtle arrival with all of its chilling winds and biting cold temperatures. Unfortunately — as I often have to remind myself — this is not an excuse to put away your running sneaks and ditch your workout buddies. It just means that you simply have to attire yourself with warmer sets of workout clothes.

As you can see by the alarmingly pink photo above, we have discovered an interesting new winter workout wear trend. This little all-in-one skirt with built-in tights is sold on a website called SkirtSports.com, and according to them, it can be worn “on the trails or at your favorite night club.” (Yes, I too shrieked in horror.) As a former soccer player who is more accustomed to the warm up pant, I have to ask: Are we really doing this?

Personally, I just don’t see the point of the skirt at all. I mean I know leggings were hot this year but come on. Maybe if you were playing tennis these might make sense, but most outdoor courts close for the winter anyway. And, honestly, could you really see Maria Sharipova rocking this? No.

Besides, Nike invented Therma-FIT fabric for a reason.

I actually like it – great if you don’t like your butt

Honestly, I’d be too embarrassed to wear this at my gym. And the fact is that most women who want to hide their butt will probably only draw more attention to it by sporting pants like this, don’t you think?

A skirted abdomin is an alternative to the oversized sweatshirts that I am used to but the hot pink would have me why to self conscious to do any serious excercising. I prefer a more conservative approach.

    Funny,
I’ve been wearing a skirt over dance pants for years – keeps my butt extra warm when I walk, makes a nice accent for my hips when I teach belly dance http://www.thedancingspirit.com and makes me feel as if i am doing something a bit different than my 18 yr old daughter

Most of the ladies in our tennis club wear pants under their tennis skirts. Since a lot of them are older, it is great aesthetic.
