Sequins have an inherently glamorous quality to them thanks to their lustre and shine, but when I think of sequins, I automatically think of A) a disco ball or B) some really fancy event, which led me to wonder if sequins really work for daywear.
This dress by Tory Burch (left) is quite a sight. I’ll grant you that it’s beautiful, but it's definitely not office wear. (We won’t even get into the $1500 price tag.) For us regular girls who want the sparkle but don’t have anywhere to wear a completely sequined frock, we can still incorporate the trend into our daily wardrobe without going overboard.
This black tunic by LaRok ($198) is a great example. Paired with some jeans or even trousers, it’s perfect for work. Get a bargain version from Forever21 that mimics the style for just $30. This Nanette Lepore cardigan ($275) is another great piece. The sequins are subtle enough so that it’s appropriate for the daytime. You could also try this plum sweater with sequin embellishment (also from LaRok) that's on sale for $90. And if you do happen to have an event where sequins are in order, you may want to try this modish swing dress by Alice + Olivia ($485). It’s still fabulous, but a bit more understated.
What do you think? Are you into the sequins craze? I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it yet — it reminds me too much of a disco ball. But I could see myself wearing some of the less flashy styles, especially if I’m going out after work or something. You? Leave a comment and tell us what you think.
