Bird Dropping Facials – Posh Did It, But We Did It First!

image

Victoria Beckham recently revealed that she's a big fan of slathering bird poop on her face – in the form of Geisha facials, that is. Apparently, Posh has suffered from bad skin all her life and claims the nightingale droppings have helped clear her complexion. Well, this is old news to SheFinds, as we tried out this treatment a while ago. Check out my review of the Geisha below:

I've never been afraid to wander off the beaten path when it comes to my beauty regime.  From mayonnaise in my hair, to hemorrhoid cream on my eyes, I'll try anything once. But I may have crossed the line when I went to the Shizuka NY Day Spa for the Geisha Facial($180).  The treatment sounded alluring initially – until I discovered the main ingredient was nightingale droppings.

At first, I was afraid they’d be sloshing the excrement on my face straight from the bottom of the birdcage, but thankfully it came in a purified powder form.  This ingredient actually dates back to the time when geishas were in need of something to remove their heavy makeup and cleanse their delicate skin.  How they discovered nightingale droppings, I’m not sure, but it has been a staple ever since in the world’s poshest spas.  The powder, combined with rice bran, is supposed to exfoliate and brighten the skin.  To my surprise, it worked. I emerged from the facial with a smooth and glowing complexion. The whole treatment was very luxurious and relaxing, but this is one facial I won’t be trying at home.

Here are some other unusual ingredients creeping up in spa treatments as of late:

image
1.  Caviar – Forget the crackers.  Go ahead and spread this delicacy on your face to minimize wrinkles.

image
2.  Bull Semen – Let’s just say you have to really be seeking smooth hair in order to try this as a conditioner.

3.  24 Karat Gold – Used as an ingredient in facials, the gold is supposed to lift and firm the skin.

As an employee of Bird-X, Inc (www.bird-x.com), this entry is definitely the most unusual article about bird droppings I’ve ever seen. Bird droppings have a very high amount of exfoliating uric acid in them (also why they ruin the finish on your car paint). Still, droppings in their natural form can spread many diseases (e.coli, salmonella, even fatal fungal infections) to humans so definitely don’t try to recreate this at home!

Not to worry…the droppings are sterilized with UV light to kill bacteria, so it is very safe to use, and surprisingly effective.

Hi, my name is Rebecca and I am working with Shizuka New York. Thanks for your coverage of the new Geisha Facial and for helping generate buzz around this new skin care trend. Because of the recent buzz, we shot a video to show that we do indeed have a sense of humor about the Geisha Facial special ingredient – nightingale droppings. Enjoy the video at http://www.shizukany.com/geisha-poop-facial-video.htm

How utterly…weird. What will they think up next, powdered pigeon droppings to remove crows’ feet? Liquified woodpecker beaks to strengthen nails? Let me know if any of these are in the works because all of us at Bird-X (www.bird-x.com) would be interested.
