It’s fall, which means I’m itching to buy some cute new stuff. And my 401K has taken a major hit, which means I’m a little strapped for cash. So what’s a fashion addict like me to do?
How about an affordable wardrobe makeover? I followed a few tips from my favorite designers this weekend as I cleaned out my closet (ahead of a Swapping Party) and now I’m loving what I have even more.
Tip #1: Borrow From the Boys
A lean, well-cut blazer can take you from the office into the evening, and will quickly become one of your go-to pieces. Remember, a close fitting style is much more flattering than a baggier one. And if you combine it with a frilly blouse, pencil skirt and peep toe shoes, the tension between the feminine and the masculine is about as sexy as you can get.
Tip #2: Brighten Up
If you’re like me, your closet is a palette of staples: black, white and nudes. Mixing an occasional pop of color into your wardrobe quite literally brightens up your MO. Find a silky blouse or luxurious sweater in this fall’s rich purple tones and see what it does to your routine.

Tip #3: Find the Perfect Fit
Forget what’s trendy and stick to the styles and silhouettes that flatter your body. It’s ok to mix in a piece here and there that you know will only be around for a season, but don’t make the mistake of counting them as part of our wardrobe foundation. Wandering what that should be?
