Celeb Trend: Clip-On Bangs

When I was eight years old, I used a grey magic marker to draw bangs onto a picture of myself to get an idea of whether they’d look good on me. But my primitive photoshopping only looked ridiculous–not just because the bang color clearly didn’t match my hair color (why I chose grey I’ll never know) but also because it looked, well, unnatural. I mean, it’s marker, for crying out loud.

These days I see celebs all over the place doing basically the same thing (trying out the bangs look), but using clip-ons instead of color-ons. Rihanna, Britney Spears (why is Britney always one of the celebs trying on a new trend?), and Vanessa Hudgens have all recently been seen with yo-yoing haircuts, sporting bangs one day and long hair the next. If they’d asked me, I’d have told them about my childhood realization. But they didn’t–and it’s more fun to mock celebrities than to council them, now isn’t it. Curious if they look good or not?

Britney

As always, Britney is a good example of how not to wear something. Number one no-no? Don’t use extensions and fake bangs. You’ll just look…fake. And trashy. And oh so Britney.

Rihanna

Here’s Rihanna showing us how to look different every day of your life. I actually think she looks pretty good with the bangs in the first picture, but maybe that’s just because she’s gorgeous. In the second pic she just looks like a little girl wearing mommie’s big wig.

But as someone who has grown out bangs numerous times, I can understand the desire to cut to the chase. You want the look itself, not the painful in-between stages. These fake bangs are difficult to match in terms of color and texture, though, and apparently quite tricky to put on. The results are predictably disappointing. But if you’re itching to try them, here are a few places that sell clip-ons:

UltimateLooks.com have attachments that come in at about $20: they even sell them in curly!

The selection at Garland Drake looks to be of a higher quality. They’re $80 each, and come in many colors to match most hair.

I’d be interested to know: has anyone out there actually tried these? If so, please do comment!

I did a google search and sultryhair.com came up. I liked that I saw,the price was right ($50) so I ordered some long clip in bangs in color number 4. They are a God send. They made my bangs look like something out of a magazine, very full and natural looking. They do not look fake at all. They are made with 100% remy human hair. Everyone at school and work thinks I got a new hair cut. I am very impressed with the quality, look, and feel of the clip in bangs.

I adore my clip in bangs. I’m a member of a retro pinup site called pinuplifestyle.com and the girls there are ALWAYS back and forth about Betty Bangs (short blunt bangs). I have a set of Jessica Simpson bangs in dark brown. They match my hair perfectly, and I love that I can just dry my hair, clip them in, and I look totally put together!
