What: Palm Beach Perfect Skin: The Quest For Ideal Skin Health & Beauty by Dr. Kenneth Beer
Why: We all long for that perfect summer glow. And yet, how many times do we have to be reminded how terrible the sun is for our skin? And as if melanoma, sun spots, and premature wrinkles weren't bad enough, how about the utter pain and embarrassment of sunburn? I'll admit, I used to worship the sun god a little too much in my youth, and I am certainly regretting my careless ways now.
But, thanks to dermatologist Kenneth Beer and his new book, Palm Beach Perfect Skin: The Quest For Ideal Skin Health & Beauty, we now have the tools to both fight wrinkles and prevent future damage to our precious skin.
In his new book, Dr. Beer offers expert advice on the latest advancements in treating wrinkles and caring for your skin. And now, he is offering exclusive tips and product picks for SheFinds! Dr. Beer recommends using no less than an SPF of 60 when spending a day in the sun, and when looking for an everyday sunscreen, he strongly suggests staying away from SPF 15 products, as they don't provide enough protection. Want more expert advice? You can buy Dr. Beer's book on Amazon.com or win one for yourself by entering our giveaway!
We are giving away copies of Palm Beach Perfect Skin: The Quest For Ideal Skin Health & Beauty to 5 lucky readers. In order to be considered, you have to write to us in the comments section and share with us how you keep your skin protected from the sun when heading out to the beach during the summer months.
And if you've already been burned by those rays, below are 4 products that Dr. Beer suggests to cut the pain and keep you comfortable while your skin gets back on track.
Cortisone cream ($8) might be old school, but it's the perfect go-to for soothing itchy sunburnt skin.
Motrin IB ($10) not only heals muscle aches, fevers, and headaches, it also takes the edge off of that painful burn.
Also great for mosquito bites, poison oak, and chicken pox, Aveeno Anti-Itch Lotion ($6.70) should have a permanent spot in your medicine cabinet.
Great as an everyday lotion, Theraplex Hydrolotion moisturizer ($14.90) coats your skin with extra protection, and keeps on hydrating throughout the day.
And check out the Top 5s from our other experts: Nadine Haobsh, author of Beauty Confidential, Kat James, author of The Truth About Beauty, Nada Manley, author of Secrets of the Beauty Insiders, Charla Krupp, author of Hot Not to Look Old, Bridgette Raes, author of Style Rx, Christie Matheson, author of Green Chic, and Dr. Perricone, author of Ageless Face, Ageless Mind.

I like to put a coating of Neutrogena’s Ultra-Sheer sunblock all over, with an extra coating on my nose, cheeks, chest, and shoulder. I also apply some of the mist to my scalp around my part.
Since lip gloss attracts rays to the lips, I either forgo it altogether, or put a layer of sunscreen lip balm on first.
If I need a bit of coverage, I use Benefit’s You Rebel to help even out the tone.
The best protection for the beach that I have found is Soleil Ultra Expert Sun Care by Lancome which is SPF50 but for everyday use I just use J&J;Purpose lotion, SPF 15. To protect sensitive areas like lips, nose & even babies, Mustela makes a Sun Cream that is SPF50 as well and comes in a small tube. The *very* best thing you can use when going to the beach is Common Sense!
I can’t believe how much I damaged my skin through the years; I’ve been burned just too many times.
Now, I and whomever is with me, be it kids, grandkids, hubby etc. all wear hats with fairly wide brims to the face is out of the sun. We also always wear light long sleeved shirts that are billowy and allow any breeze to flow through!
We also always slather or spray sunblock on any exposed skin. The wee grandbabies wear the bathing suits that cover most of them up!
Besides sunscreen, long sleeves and pants, unless I am at the beach, I wear a floppy hat and sunglasses for protections. Because of macular degeneratin running in our family, it helps to keep your eyes protected. Please enter me in your drawing. Many thankd, Cindi
For every day use, I apply Eucerin Extra Protective Moisture Lotion, SPF 30.
When I am out in the sun I never forget to wear a full sleeve shirt and pant. I also have a sun screen with me, My friends too follow the same procedure.
