Fashion Advice: How to Wear Booties

Despite what the fashion gods decree as "the must-have look" of the season, chances are mastering that look is no easy feat. Case in point: ankle boots. Touted on magazine covers and sported on the feet of our favorite celebs, you can't help but run out and get a pair only to find that you no clue about how to wear them without looking like a "Vogue Don't." Keep these tips in mind and you will be strutting in style:
Don't Look Stout: Booties, unlike their knee-high cousins, shorten the leg. If you're svelte, no worries, but if your gams are less than gorgeous make sure to buy ankle boots that hit just above the ankle or shoe boots that hit right below the ankle. Styles that stop right at the ankle bone will interfere with the line of the leg. Also, avoid long skirts or short, fitted ones that make legs look out of proportion. Mid-thigh to knee-length A-line styles that leave room to breathe work well as do sweater dresses or simple shifts.
Stay Warm & Sexy: Whether or not you are in doubt about the shape of your legs, tights are a must. If you really fear your shape, wear leggings. Black makes everything look slimmer and will hide all imperfections, but brightly hued hosiery is also hot this season.
Forget Pants: Unless they are slim fit and can be tucked into the tops of the boots, or come right to the top of it, don't bother with pants. Otherwise, you are defeating the point of wearing cute boots!
Remember Comfort: No pair of boots, no matter how hot they are, looks good unless you are comfortable walking in them. Steer clear of 5-inch heels unless you're a pro. We recommend these Ecco Bern Boots that are incredibly comfy, chic and easy to walk in. Check out more of our favorite booties here or peruse the massive selection of booties below.
