Good Question: How Do I Pair Brown And Black?
A reader recently queried about how to wear the dreaded color combo long bashed by fashionistas as a faux pas: black and brown. Well, it seems this season is all about breaking rules. It's red and pink, this, blue and black, that… Frankly, I'm from the camp that lives by the motto that black matches everything–even brown.
So how do you make it work? It's all about pairing it right. With these quick tips you'll be ready to shop your closet without fear.
Start with All Black. Grab a sleek black dress or trousers and a black top–a tee, a sweater, whatever matches the pants (non-matching blacks are a no-no). A light tan, camel, or caramel brown will pop beautifully against the black. Shown above: the perfect black Jil Sander Tweed Dress, sexy Charles David Chester Boots and a Classic Hobo by Coach. On the cheap are Old Navy Bangles and Metal Rope Belt from TopShop. Finishing the look are a Gold Filigree Necklace and a pair of Gold Diamond Studs.
Apply the Color Wheel. Warm browns look great with creams, golds, and shades of pink. If an espresso looks too dull against black, simply blend in one of these flaterring hues to give your palette a punch.
