The media is all abuzz about women’s shoes, namely the ever-increasing heel height. Television, news outlets, blogs – even the Wall Street Journal has gotten involved in Heelgate 08. Women are snagging shoes towering over 6 and 7" (the standard high heel is usually 3 or 4") the minute they come down the runway. Can't you just hear the ankles snapping all over the world?

Even lauded shoe designer Christian Louboutin is designing an 8" shoe due to the high demand for higher and higher heels, despite reports of herniated disks, sprained ankles, and runway models crying in fear. How do customers bear the pain? Restylane shots in the pad of the foot to make standing in the shoes bearable!
Look, I love a great shoe as much as the next person, but when does heel height take you from Barbie to broken? We’ve covered people cutting off their pinky toes for their shoes, but at what point does permanent damage to your body become the price to pay for fashionable footwear?
For those of you who decide that 7 and 8" heels are for you, may I suggest Bliss Spa's The Tenderfoot ($68)? A hard-core treatment for punished feet, it helps treat corns and calluses while revitalizing tired, overworked feet. The least you can do is apologize to your feet after treating them so poorly.
And if you prefer to stay lower to the ground, check out our picks for low high-heeled work shoes.
What’s your take on this? Are you taking the elevator up to the skyscraper heel height or are you decidedly staying closer to terra firma with standard high heels or flats? Let us know in the comment section.

I’m not surprised its come to this, but I’ll stick with my 4″ heel.
See the new killer heels?

Oh good land. I don’t think most women need to be six inches taller.
My highest heels are about 3.5″, and that’s a bit high for me. I tend to wear flats or a smaller heel, because I’m 5′10″ and I’m already taller than most people I encounter.
As I lie here with an ice pack on my ankle after falling off my 4 inch heels, I think my perspective on this issue has changed! Some women can carry really high heels off. Kudos to them. I can’t. I’ll stick with my medium-highs (if I can ever walk again) ;)
I’m shocked and appalled at the lengths some will go to wear those shoes!
