A few weeks ago I wore my new favorite shoes out on the town. Five inch stilettos with a 1" platform. H-O-T. My toes, however, didn't exactly think so. The crowded bar made for no available seating and I ended up standing in the 5 inchers for 5+ hours. The pinky toes on both my feet were numb for the next two days. I seriously thought I had damaged nerves in my feet — not exactly the response I was looking for in my new heels.
With New Year's coming up and multiple holiday parties to attend, I'm on the hunt for cute stilettos with a little less height and a festive touch.
If you're wearing pants this holiday season, these Stuart Weitzman 3-inch peep-toe patent pumps ($235, were $117.50) will look adorable with a deep red nail polish on your toes. Wearing a little black dress? Red pumps, like these satin peekaboo toe 3.5" pumps ($89) are key this year (and every year). They may look high, but they still fall under 4 inches, and the platform makes the shoe more comfortable.
If you want your shoes to be your accent piece, look no further than these Harriet t-strap sandals ($49.44, were $139) or these Miu Miu plum colored metallic pumps ($215, were $430).

Nine West has purple patent leather shoes just like those – the Walcott – and they’re under $80. Excellent deal. I bought them in 4 colors – black patent, purple patent, brown leather, and black leather.
I can definitely relate. I actually carry flip flops in my purse if it’s big enough (and it almost always is) when I go out. I love cute shoes, but I can’t stand being uncomfortable. I may have to pick up a few of the pairs you reccommended!
I have a problem standing for any length of time in heels as well. I want to look nice when I go out. How comfortable did you find the shoes you showed in the post, because they are certainly beautiful. Also, Kendall, who commented above, can you tell me about the comfort of the Nine West Walcott’s you purchased? I would like something for the holidays and can’t spend a lot.
Thanks!
I’m always amazed at women (mostly under 30) walking and running in high heels on NYC pot-holed streets. Years from now, you’ll be able to to trace that foot, knee, hip and low back pain to the years you racked up the miles on those stillettos.
I just went to the first of many holiday parties so I can totally relate! I road-tested a glam pair of gold heels that I got at Payless (for less than $20) and I danced, noshed and flirted for more than 6 hours before my feet started to complain so I got way more than my money’s worth. Check them out and 10 other cheap, chic shoes for under $50 at http://www.fantastictoe.com/DCDIVA/page/4. Happy holidays and shopping!
Hi Maureen -
The Walcott is a very comfortable shoe. I just bought my 4th pair last week. (I have them in black/black patent/purple patent/brown leather.) I’ve danced in DC clubs in them. I wear them to client meetings. I wore the black patent to a Christmas party. I wear them everywhere and get tons of compliments. The heel isn’t that high – perhaps 2 inches? – so they don’t kill your feet but still give you a bit of height to elongate your leg. Give ‘em a try. Hope that helps!
