It’s A One-Colored World Out There: Monochromes Come Out Of The Closet

A recent article in NY Magazine revealed an alarming underground existence (okay, not so underground, but odd enough to be labeled as such) of people who dress in only one color. Just from reading the header, I figured I fell into that category. Like any New Yorker, my wardrobe consists of so much black, I look like I am perpetually in mourning. But to my surprise, no black lived in any of these people's worlds. Each one embodied their own personal color, by dressing monochromatically head to toe – every single day. One woman even went so far as to take a blue Sharpie to white Louboutins when she couldn't find true blue ones. Sacrilege, I say. But then again, maybe our mornings would be made easier if we didn't have to create a complementary color palette. And shopping time could be cut in half if your eye was trained to only pick up a single hue. So if you are thinking of joining the cult of the monochrome, here are a few items in rich, flattering plum that'll get you started. Just remember – pairing different shades of the same color can be a pretty tricky task. And if you opt for something other than blue, your go-to pair of jeans will have left the building along with your LBD. That to me, just ain't worth it.

I have to say that blue closet is striking. However, if you ask me, variety is the spice of life, and nowhere more so than in your fashion choices. Of course, if you’re limiting your palette to one color, I suppose it could force you to get creative in terms of cuts, styles and accessories.
