Is ‘The Rachel’ Really Making A Comeback?

Ah, The Rachel – a layered bouffant first sported by Jennifer Aniston that parlayed itself into a 1990s cultural phenomenon. Female "Friends" devotees everywhere were framing their faces with the do. But as is true of most trends, the look was something both the locks and the ladies shortly outgrew. Or did they? Tune into your network news. What's up with the heads of many an anchorwoman? "Everywhere we turn we see another network news anchorwoman sporting the exact same long-layered take on [the Rachel]," points out the Gawker crew. It's a trend you can't help but watch. So could it be that the sitcom-shorn hairstyle is making a comeback? Or are these newswomen simply anchored to the past? I'm all about the latter. Anchorwomen are notorious for broadcasting what's not so new in fashion. While the dated-do definitely follows suit (a dowdy one-button, no less) it only serves to show that the only thing these newswomen are breaking is style's cardinal rule: out with the old and in with the new
