And so it begins. The tumultuous, gut-wrenching, ego-killing beast that is Fashion Week. I can never quite figure out what I should be wearing at which show, and I always have the paranoid feeling that my poor, innocent threads are being scoffed at by the robo-fashionistas. (Which is probably not such a paranoid thought after all.) But we will grin and bare it in order to offer you our daily diary of fashion week experiences. To start off, here are the top trends we spotted so far on the fashion folk milling about Bryant Park.
Knit caps like this La Fiorentina Loose Knit Cabbie Hat ($32) were warming many a trendsetter's head inside the tents – blacks and creams were most popular.

The eternally chic and relentlessly expensive Mike & Chris Kian hooded leather jacket ($760) was spotted paired with everything from skinny jeans to shift dresses.
This one made me blink twice – legwarmers. Yep, the kind you wore with a leotard and pink tights for your grammar school dance recital. Ladies were still rocking the warmers over tights, but instead of leotards, they opted for mini dresses and skirts.
The modernized version of the spectator was seen in a variety of patent colors – from the classic black and white like this Dolce Vita pump ($150), to edgier mustards and olives.
And last but not least, the bootie had a strong showing – especially in suede and muted colors. This grey Bandolino bootie (was $90, now $72) would have fit right in.
And be sure to stay tuned this week for SheFinds coverage of the Fall 2008 shows.
