Platform Sneakers Are Not The Chicest – So Why Are They Back?

imageI remember my very first pair of platform sneaks: hot lime green with bright blue accents and about a three inch white rubber sole — just tall enough to keep my bell bottoms from brushing the floor. Man, I thought I was so cool. I would stroll into seventh grade with my keychain Lip Smackers dangling from my backpack and the Spice Girls blaring on my discman (remember when they were actually good?)

But, much like the short-lived return of the Spice Girls, this resurgence of platform sneakers feels a little like a "you can return to the place but not the time" type of thing — the trend just feels past it's due date.

Take these L.A.M.B. Lace Up Wedges ($235): yes they're kind of funky and would probably work on Gwen, but they just don't look modern, or chic. I can't picture a Manhattan fashionista walking down Madison Avenue with these clunkers bulging out the bottoms of her skinny jeans. Of course, there is also the high heeled versions that look a little more fashionable than my Seventh Grade platforms and they are keeping up with the trend of chunkier stacked heels… but I don't know, they're just not for me.

We'd love to know if you'd wear this new trend. Take our poll and let us know in the comments section how you feel about the sporty platform comeback.

Sorry but these are just plain ugly and look very uncomfortable.
