Trend Alert: The Monokini

target-monokini

icon What: The Buzz About Monokinis Why: One-pieces and bikinis are pretty standard in the world of swimsuits, but this summer’s hottest swimsuit trend is the monokini, or what’s sometimes called a “cut-out.” It’s not quite a one-piece, but it’s not nearly a bikini, therefore carrying on the idea that less is more and that you don’t have to bare it all to get major sex appeal. Celebrities love the style, as do lean model types who you’ve probably seen prancing around in them on runways and the pages of Vogue. Surprisingly, though, this trend has even caught on in the mainstream — at least on the likes of yachting Hamptonites I saw donning shimmering metallic monokinis over the weekend. A-listers and mega-stars aside, I think this is a stunning look to wear if you have the body for it. From modest styles, such as this suit to the lefticon, to more elaborate peek-a-boo styles, this trend is red hot and totally worth a try-out in the dressing room. But what do you think? Would you wear it? Leave a comment or vote!

the monokini? what on gods green earth would make you want to wear a monokini!! ok it is so ugly and weird. looks very uncomfortable… just because people like bikinis and one pieces, doesn’t mean you should combine them into a dumb invention like the monokini. get real!!! hoping that trend doesn’t spread to my beach or pool club anytime soon because if it does, I will STILL not wear it. you’re doing wayyy to much to look fashionable.

whoa dude, monokinis suck!!!! theyr’e gross, only hookers would wear them. did they have a design for a bikinni and smudged it downward and decided to manufacture them so that pathetic girls could try to get dates!! it looks your giving urself a wedgie from the front. PS- i am pregnant, and i dont see any good MATERNITY monokinis. racists!!!

the monokini rocks! The above comments were posted by fat chicks whos spare tire would be hanging out the sides!
I am buying like 10 of these and rocking them all summer long because I, unlike you, look hot in whatever I put on.

Hey, I have a monokini & I love it! My favorite swimsuit ever was the monokini I had as a teen in the 80′s, and I waited a lifetime to find one again last year.

Stylish monokinis (NOT slutty, overly-cut-out styles) are awesome – they are as sexy as a bikini, but with a little more coverage. For some of us older, still in-shape women, these are fantastic! They hide stretch marks or scars (childbirth, c-sections, the little belly we eventually get), yet still look fabulous.

    Rock on, monokini!

  • Monokini lover

Monokinis are gorgeous. Only the fatsos would hate it. They are sexy looking without being overly revealing. You people have serious problems if you hate them. I wonder what kinds of atrocities you wear to the beach…

my boyfrind loves mine and you totally rock the site your at and you dont feel to revealing either. i’m glad tey are n style

  • Huffness

I absolutely love them!! I have a 9 month old baby, and was looking for anything to bring my confidence back and i found it!! Don’t hate, appreciate!!¢¾

All the haters of this true fashion design are obviously not into fashion in first place, very old school, or very old. Monokinis come in more than one design and are a truly artistic solution to plain swim suits. I love mine, along with my family and boyfriend. its attractive and cute and can be worn by all ages. Grandma one pieces and panty and bra swimsuit designs are old news.

I abselutely love monokinis. unfortuneately i dont have one… but i will be sure to get one this coming summer.

I love the monokini! I am 22 and have the biniki has always been my style but I had a baby 3 months ago and luckly still have my figure but I now have a few strech marks below my belly button. A one piece is not sexy to me so the monokini shows what i want and covers where I need it! Its perfect! I love that its different from the basic one or two piece!

okay. this is great. im a little chunky. and this is prefect! some cover just enough! its like wearing a bikini, but i have the confidence to wear this!<3

  • Bianca

I’m fat and I think they’re fashionable. I’m just afraid that my friends will think it’s creepy

  • tash

im in my 30′s and have a lil belly….and i dont want to wear a 2 piece obviously and one pieces can still show said lil belly. a monokini is the perfect compliment if you have my problem..the cut out on the sides create the illusion of a waste and it covers the bottom part of your belly. so rock the monokini!! just as long as its the right one for you…..for the people that r hating on them….go try one on..it might change your mind….for the people that are calling these people fatso’s and such….THAT is disgusting and you are completely rude!!!…we shud help eachother as women not bring eachother down…shame on you!!

Ouch, I don’t think the “skinny” girls should be hating on the “bigger” girls. Girls come in all shapes and sizes. Petite, flat, volumptuous, curvy, or big. Stop hating…
Anyway… I am about 170 with big boobs and big hips (hourglass figure) and i just got a monokini, and i look goddamn awesome in it. I think monokinis look GREAT for girls who have curves. :))
