Your friend’s having a baby. You should be very happy for her. She has many years of blissful child-rearing to look forward to. What you have to look forward to is a tedious shower full of oohing and awwing over miniature sized clothing and diaper genies. (And the possibility they won’t serve alcohol since mommy-to-be can’t have any – that was my last shower experience, so much fun!) Since you have to grin and bear it anyway, why not dress yourself up in something that will make every other guest squirm in their maternity blouses. We’re not saying you have to go all out, but a little flair never caused any premature labor.
Start with a simple jersey dress in a neutral color. Then, to keep it classy, layer with a crisp, cropped black jacket. Slip on a pair of fierce gladiator sandals in bold metallic – since you’ll be sitting most of the time, your feet won’t feel any pain. To add some color, look to big drop earrings in a summery turquoise and offset them with a fiery red clutch. Finally, toss on your favorite gold bangles, and you’ll be ready to bust out of the shower for a real night out.
