What To Wear With: A Patterned Scarf

Twill Plaid Scarf, $20

It may seem like an easy accessory to throw on before heading out into the brisk (almost) November air, but many of our readers struggle with how exactly to build an outfit around a scarf – particularly a patterned one.

If your scarf is brightly colored, like the plaid above, it should become the focal point of your look. This means the rest of your outfit should be a combo of neutral blacks, whites, and greys. Layering is also a good option when wearing a scarf as this will create that cozy, casual aesthetic. Start with a basic white tee, add a grey cardigan, and top with a crisp black double-breasted blazer. On the bottom, opt for black or indigo slim jeans (or leggings if you have the body for it) and a pair of your favorite black boots. Keep jewelry to a minimum with a modern watch, and finish off with a slouchy, distressed leather bag.
