Fashion Math: Would You Put Down $550 for a Purse?

Normally, we would never attempt to justify a handbag beloved by celebrities. Their budgets are typically in another stratosphere and the comparison never seems quite fair. But we’re making an exception for today’s edition of Fashion Math. Rebecca Minkoff’s Morning After bag has been seen on the arms of everyone from Hayden Panetierre and Vanessa Hudgens to Agyness Deyn and Jessica Szohr. This black leather and suede version costs $550, which for them is probably pretty affordable, but for the rest of us more like a 2-day vacation or one month’s worth of bills. But if you’re going to invest in an “It” bag, this one should definitely be on your short list. Here’s the Fashion Math to make that $550 price tag seem a little less scary:

Let’s take a cue from our celebrity fans. Hayden’s carrying her all dressed up, Vanessa’s wearing hers casually and Jessica brought hers on the red carpet.

That means you can essentially wear this bag everywhere you go-to work, shopping, out to dinner or a club. If you make the Morning After your handbag for 2010, you’ll only be paying $1.50 each time you carry it. That’s probably less than what it cost you in gas money or train or bus fare to get where you’re going.
