Freebie Friday: Win A Copy Of Mrs. O: The Face Of Fashion Democracy

Mrs. O bookmichelle-obama-wears-pink-cardigan

What: Three copies of the new book about Michelle Obama’s fabulous style, Mrs O: The Face Of Fashion Democracy, from the founder and editor of Mrs-O.org. The site tirelessly tracks the First Lady’s fashion choices, and we visit often.

The book examines Mrs. Obama as a new style icon, with over 100 photos and interviews from the designers she’s worn again and again.

Why: We were early cheerleaders for Michelle Obama’s style, and we remain big supporters of her timeless fashion sense. This book is a great coffee-table addition, and (not that we’d encourage re-gifting a prize, but…) makes an equally fantastic gift for a really stylish friend, or as a nicer-than-signing-her-up-for-What Not To Wear-style hint.

How: Post a comment about your favorite aspect of Michelle Obama’s style – the kitten heels? Belted everything? Perhaps those sheath dresses in saturated hues? – and we’ll enter you to win the book.

1. Post a comment about why you like our First Lady’s style.

2. You must supply us with a valid email address and sign up for the SheFinds newsletter.

3. The contest starts now and entries must be date stamped by our server no later than Friday, October 2nd 2009 at 11:59 AM Eastern Time to be eligible.

I love that she mixes high/low. She might be wearing that cool Alaia black belt (and she’s worn it more than once on camera, which is more realistic than those who don’t repeat outfits or accessories), but she, of course, is known for her love for J.Crew so got to love that.

I love Mrs. O’s style because it’s unique. She doe not seem to be concerned about pleasing other women or men. She wears whatever will make her feel confidant. I adore the belted clothing. A belt centers your eye but also brings the eye to the rest of the garment. This lady has style.

affordable, classy without being a prud outfits. Most of the time, real nice and not oldfashioned clothes and she is not afrad to wear shorts. She is a woman, confident, can move in her clothes and looks great

  • Jill Miller

I like that she wears styles that are atainable to the average woman, and would look good on most women.

  • Melissa D

I ADORE her style because she’s elegant and timeless without being the least bit matronly. She looks young and modern!

  • ky2here

I love the juxtaposition of her strength and feminimity.

  • Benita G.

What I like is that she looks comfortable in whatever she wears. I yhink now she has to be a bit more cognizant of putting her outfits together; so many eyes are on her. But, I thi nk she’s got it together,

I think her style is timeless – not trendy. We haven’t had anyone with as much sense of style in the White House since Jackie Kennedy.

  • Kimberly

I LOVE her use of color. She always chooses great, classic shapes and keeps them looking young and fresh by using a fun, bright color. It’s so refreshing.

  • DM

I love mrs.Obama style because she wears colors thats look nice on her and she has a flair and style that all women can see themself wearing trendy and stylish she just looks fablous.

  • Jennifer barr

I like how her style is simple and classic

  • Ashley

She has come a long way from the snoozy Adele Simpson suits worn by the past first ladies! I blog about her style constantly – my fav. is still her Watanabe cardigan. She is chic and elegant, with a splash of edge – LOVE HER!

  • Ed Nemmers

She just seems so comfortable and natural in what she chooses to wear.

  • Erin Cook

I like her taste in fashion and how proper and classy she is. She has great taste.

  • Kobi Hendrix

I’d love to have this book. Her style is amazning. She mixes items that I would never think about doing.

There are several factors that contribute to Michelle Obama’s fashion sense that I admire. First, I love the way she carries herself. There is no mistakening the mark of self-assurance. This is a woman who knows exactly who she is and is not about to let someone put her in a box to be marketed like the President’s appendage. She demonstrates leadership, both publicly and privately. The fact that she is comfortable in her own skin translates to her fashion choices. She knows when to rely on the simple, yet classic black dress with a string of pearls as she did for her White House portrait. But she also loves combining colors which some former first ladies seem to be afraid of doing. Tall and physical fit she doesn’t shy away from showing her arms despite her age. I think she will do more to revive the use of a simple cardigan or sweater set than any model on the runaway. But in the end its the sense that she is one of us that transcends the practical and classic elegance we see in her. She makes me feel proud to have been a working woman, a wife and a mother in a time when women are increasingly being portrayed as overtly sexual beings in skimpy outfits by the music industry. And one wonders whether commercials are selling sexuality or a product. The only thing that I would change if I could would be her flats. Being as tall as she is she wears them often, but I would recommend some flats by Tory Burch or some other designer who adds elements to the flats. Plain flats seem to emphasize the size of her feet and the fact that she is not in heels. If not flats perhaps a short pump. In terms of hairstyle and makeup…she shouldn’t change a thing.

  • Valerie

She has no style just like her husband they are taking our country down.

  • Veronica Garrett

I love how she wears colors and how her outfits reflect the everyday American people not just the jigh fashion designers.

  • Susan Smith

I like how colorful and diverse her clothes are, and she isn’t afraid to wear sleeveless clothes

  • Lily Kwan

I like Michelle Obama’s style because it’s classic and sophisticated.

  • Brenda Rupp

She is always dressed so well. She always has the greatest accessories!
