I could be making some enemies with this next statement, but I don't like Talbots. It screams affluent soccer mom from suburban New Jersey. So while it doesn't fall into the category of mall store per se, I've decided to feature it anyway since SheFinds rarely (if ever) peruses the store or its site for chic, trendy finds.
I ventured into Talbots over the holidays determined to find something of note, and surprisingly, the store wasn't overrun by strollers and khaki pants. I found a gem right away – a ruby red dress reminiscent of the stunner Michelle Obama wore to the White House in November. And with the soon-to-be First Lady making headlines as a true bargain fashionista, maybe Talbots has something up its dolman sleeve. This High-Twist Wool Dress ($179) is also available in black and has an interesting sash that can be tied in the front, back, or side. Pin on an antique brooch, add some kitten heels, and you're the third Jackie O.

that is so funny how stores have different connotations to us. my mother in law is a devoted talbot’s shopper, so to me it is a snow-birding retiree store, not at all soccer mom.
Oh, I agree with the snowbird and Talbots connection. I think of a a perfectly coiffed grandmother I know who wears nothing but.

Why do you ladies think Talbots is “matronly”? I’ve shopped there almost exclusively since I was 30 years old and have always been able to have an age-appropriate wardrobe. Maybe you should check it out personally.
