Avoid those debilitating UVBs with a look from this season’s onslaught of updated takes on the classic straw hat. Ideal for the beach, some al fresco brunching, or a weekend stroll, this practical and unfussy accessory can add just the right amount of cool (literally and figuratively) to a casual sunny-day look.
Below are three of our favorites:
1. For a little bit of edge, wear this laid-back straw fedora from Urban Outfitters ($28, also available in brown and black), with a simple shorts and tank combo.
2. A cowboy hat from Bop Basics ($80) goes great with a summer dress – just make sure to avoid a head-to-toe prairie look.
3. This beaded straw hat from Juicy Couture ($95) is a maximum-coverage floppy with a bit of an island twist.

Anna Wintour Moves In On Washington
Great article! I love the cowgirl look on young girls, but for us over forty girls, the floppy hat is the look. And, most of us have worn them in the seventies! In my cousin’s wedding in 74 we all wore big purple floppy hats as bridesmaids! I just don’t care for the old man hat..,just saying.
Good article, I love hats…esp. for summer. Any tips on reshaping straw hats that may have lost some shape in winter storage?
