Michelle Obama’s Wearing Yellow (Swiss Wool Lace) To Church..We Hear It’s Isabel Toledo!

Today's the day the world has been waiting for. Yes, of course we are talking about the inauguration, but the fashion world is biting our nails in eager anticipation of Michelle Obama's sartorial choices this monumental Tuesday. She just showed up at church in this yellow coat and dress ensemble, and we now know it's by designer Isabel Toledo (and Cathy Horyn reports it's made of fancy Swiss wool lace). We also hear there's a pashmina lining in the coat – whose color is officially lemongrass – to keep her warm while sitting outside with her J. Crew gloves. But we're still wondering what Michelle will choose for this evening's festivities.

By the way, she's also wearing Jimmy Choo Glacier Pumps – which must be insanely comfortable since she's on her feet all day – and J. Crew leather gloves. We found some similar options on eBay

To honor the occasion, we have come out with our Style Guide to Michelle Obama, which will help you and your wardrobe keep up with the iconically stylish First Lady. As we count down the minutes, here's a recap of SheFinds' favorite Obama moments in style history – which one was your favorite?

Want to score some Toledo of your own? We found some classics on eBay. Or mimic Michelle's Tuesday morning look with a budget-friendly yellow tweed coat and a pair of hunter green kitten heels.

On Sunday, Michelle appeared at the We Are One concert in Washington in a classic camel ensemble by Narciso Rodriguez.

For her first visit to the White House, she dressed in a fiery red Maria Pinto that showed she was not intimidated by her newly acquired post.

On election night, the soon-to-be First Lady caused quite the stir in another Rodriguez ensemble, dubbed the Black Widow dress by those not so keen on her decision.

Michelle donned J. Crew for her appearance on Leno where she proudly declared that she bought a lot of her "stuff" online.

Her purple Maria Pinto first put Mrs. Obama on the map as a true fashion icon.

Mrs. Obama deserves better counsel on her wardrobe than this tasteless yellow broacde that should be on a sofa in a hotel lobby. Someone should help steer her in quality and taste.

  2. patty says:

I didn’t like the dress at all. I felt a red or blue would be better than the cardinal yellow…..

  3. ZK says:

Learn how to dress, Lady. OMG…so inappropriate following the Halloween Black Widow dress. Find a consultant, quickly.

  4. SP says:

The dress was a shade of green (not yellow) and lined with pink (and not brocade, lol). She’s representing for her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. Though not my taste, the suit was classy and tasteful for the event.

    Hideous Inappropriate

Our first lady just embarrassed us all on the world (fashion) stage

On screen, this hideous yellow thing looked like the mother of the bride dress from a discount store

Rhinestones in the day time – ugh – 1st Lady, please wear real or don’t wear it and no sparkle before 8 pm

Someone help Michelle out before she become a fashion laughing stock (the Dan Qualye of fashion) and so does America – horrible dress yeech

I think the yellow outfit this AM is Narciso too. Or maybe St. John…

How distasteful of you so call american women,i think she dresses wonderfully,we know you did not vote for him,and if you know how to dress, one you not hate.

I, too, thought the yellow dress/coat was ugly, and cheap looking. When you saw her from the back, the material was so thick, the seams didn’t lay together very well. And, such a silly choice for an extremely cold day. The camel and black ensemble worn a few days before with the black kid gloves, and a nice pair of fashion boots would have been soooo much nicer. Doesn’t stop my respect and admiration of our first lady!!!!

  9. CTA says:

Point of clarification: Michelle Obama has NOT been inducted into Alpha Kappa Alpha and is not a member to date (I think the issue is around some non-exclusivity talk). The color (lemongrass) was selected by the designer because she felt it represent hope & prosperity.

Actually, if you know anything about Mrs. Obama, you would know that she is in fact as honorary member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Please do your research before making posts.

Google “Michelle Obama Alpha Kappa Alpha” and you will see.

    Thank You

Point of clarification for the second time. She is not a member of AKA, because she has never been inducted. Now don’t you think if she was, her picture would be on the homepage of the national website and not on side websites.
