Newsflash: French Lawmakers Want Warnings On Airbrushed Photography
France might be one of the last countries from which we would have expected to hear this: lawmakers there have introduced a bill that would require airbrushed advertising and art photography to come with a warning (thanks to Gawker for the tip.) The warning would read “Retouched photograph aimed at changing a person’s physical appearance.”
We’ve got some questions. What about editorial spreads? Do they fall into the “art photography” category (which would need to carry the warning label)? They’re not selling things, per se, but…well, they are selling images, which is the big concern here. Most importantly, what do you think of this proposed bill?
Which photograph (above) would you rather have aimed at you?
We’d rather see real images, not totally digitally altered ones. Get camera ready with the best mascara, concealer, and eyeliner, and leave out the photoshop.
