Oprah Loves CJ by Cookie Johnson Jeans, And So Do We

Oprah cover with cj by Cookie Johnson jeans

Whenever Oprah talks about something, we feel compelled to check it out. Her affordable gift ideas and skincare advice have turned out to be quite good, so when it was revealed that Oprah loves Magic Johnson’s wife’s line of jeans, CJ by Cookie Johnson, we had to take a look. She even wore the brand on her October cover of O.

Cookie Johnson took up the torch to create the denim line after struggling to find jeans that accommodated her healthy, size 8 curves, so the fit is a top priority.  As the designer herself says, these jeans are meant for “a mother, a daughter, a grandmother. She has curves, and she has style.”

CJ by Cookie Johnson truth high waist jeans

Of Cookie Johnson’s classic looks, our favorites in the line include this hip pair of slimming, “cosmos” dark wash Grace bootcut jeans and the Truth high waist jeans in a dark rinse.

CJ by Cookie Johnson joy legging-style jeans

What really impresses us about CJ by Cookie Johnson, though, is that the line doesn’t make you sacrifice a fashion-forward look in order to get a great fit.  We love the very of-the-moment Love boyfriend jeans as well as the line’s Joy legging-style jeans.

Whether you want a basic bootcut or a trendy fit, CJ by Cookie Johnson makes jeans you can count on, so shop the full range to try out every style.  Oprah recommends owning a complete set of lingerie, and we think pairing these jeans with the right skivvies might be just the ticket to never having to hike, push, pull, or tug at your outfit again.

Just in case you’re still on the hunt for perfect denim, take a look at the best skinny jeans, fall-appropriate black jeans, and boot cut jeans to cover all your bases.

I love these jeans the price is to high.

  • Sherry

These jeans look great but the price is way too high. Maybe CJ will come out with a line for Target or something. In the meantime, I will try Lee from JC Penny which got the same great review.

My daughter (and I do to) love jeans. She’s a Pastor’s wife, mom of six of the best kids, and they are curtaintly are out of work. She’s a size 6. A little bit of a butt and a nice waist. They are currently out of work. They do for everybody so I would LOVE to do for her…maybe Christmas? DO you ever have ‘deals’. Seconds? Worn by past models? I would love to do this for her. She’s the BEST little mom,,,5’3″.

  • Danielle

I love these jeans and being I have cury hips and a big butt they would probably fit perfect but the price is wayyy to high…Darn it

These jeans are not for the regular folks at those prices…….count me out…..

  • Elizabeth

I love these jeans, but they are not for the average mother. they are for the rich and famous.

I don’t under stand why they use small models to display jeans for big women.

  • S Freeman

Love the jeans, nice styles and colors, proud to say I have lost 50 lbs and now in size 14 some 12s but cannot afford the price of these. Thanks.

  • Sandra

How can a piece of denim cost this much. Wow!

  • Kelly Smith

Sounds wonderful but how can anyone except celebreties or the wealth afford to pay these prices for a pair of jeans in todays economy. I would love to see more affordable fashions shown on talk shows for people in the real world.

  • DL

I agree they are quite expensive, even if you are doing okay financially, it’s just not a good buy. I am sure CJ knew this when she and her team decided to price them accordingly. They are trying to appeal to a certain demographics, and I don’t think women on a budget are targeted.

Another great line for curvy women is Little in the Middle. http://www.littleinthemiddle.com. They were just featured in the Nov issue of Shape Magazine.

Want to find a great fitting jean for you? Check out http://www.truejeans.com. They use True Fit technology to match a brand, style, size to you based on your measurements.

  • Lee

There is a new brand of jeans that are absolutely fabulous for curvy shaped women of all sizes. The brand is Little in the Middle, and this jeans line caters to all sizes of women that have a curvy shape. One of the most interesting thing that it does; is that it is sized one size smaller in the waist than in the hips, so it eliminates that awful gap in the back of your jeans that let your rear end hang out while seated while offering a great fit. http://www.Littleinthemiddle.com

It really would be nice if Oprah or some other talk show would show decent looking clothes for the “real” American woman. Affordable clothes for the working mom or stay at home mom or recently lost their job mom. LOL! The cookie jeans are really nice but let’s get serious, none of us “real’ moms can afford them. Jeans that cost $200 dollars, (sigh) must be nice.

  • jodie

no thanks.. i’ll stick to lane bryant..

  • sarah G.

I love the high waisted jeans, they are so versatile. You can wear them to work with a nice blouse, or dress them up for a night out with a nice tank and jewelry. The prices are not bad either, good jeans can cost you!

  • Karen

I believe on investing on a good pair of jeans! I love these jeans, I do wish that they came on petite sizes for us short people. The fit of the jean is perfect but I have to cut 1/4 the leg. :(

  • Zam

I love these jeans and God bless you Cookie for inventing the miracle jeans for us gifted women :) So i guess we can only by them online? If you have them in stores let us know where thanks.

  • karen

    Oprah,
As much as I love you, every blue moon I become disappointed. Ok you know that us folks who can not afford these jeans especially in hard economic times are watching this program advertising some beautiful jeans at an exorbitant price. So we sit there unable to change the channel due to the beauty and salivate wishing we could afford them. I’m not hating on you folks who can afford CJ jeans and neither am I hating on her (God Bless and continue to Bless you all) but for us chickies who can not afford to even splurge maybe you could have given us a warning with a caption that stated that something like this “please be aware that the average person may find this show offensive and to view at your discretion:). Luv Ya, Karen

the jeans are expense but i cannot find jeans that fit since i gained weight. i might give it a try my husband will think im crazy.

  • JA

Has anyone tried the Little in the Middle Jeans yet? There price point is a bit lower and is still a premium denim. Its made in the USA, with USA denim, made for the curvy girl CJ Johnson jeans are targeting but a bit more affortable. Having it made here makes it a bit more costly but its so worth every penny. They make my BUTT look amazing!!!!! and there sizes are from 0-20! I wear a 6.1 Size 6 at my waist so there is no gapping and 8 on my hips and thighs!!! Check them out http://www.littleinthemiddle.com

Love these jeans!!! I found them at MyShape.com you put in your measurements and they tell you what the perfect size for you.

  • Jackie

If the price was much much lower these jeans would be a hit for us lower class people. I’ll have to stick with the Lee jeans.

  • Diane

STYLISH JEANS FOR WOMEN WITH CURVES AT WITH GREAT PRICES! Let’s face it, when you are a woman with curves, buying jeans isn’t always the easiest thing to do. We’re often faced with jeans that are too ’skinny,’ too long or accentuate the wrong parts of our bodies. Well, a company called PZI Jeans (www.pzijeans.com) might just have that solved! As an added bonus, you can use promo code PZ10DW at checkout to save 10% off your order!

  • Marie

Hmmmm … I love these jeans. They are so comfy. Thanks Cookie.

    Q Prty Mrty says:
I would LOVE to get my wife these beautiful jeans, but she will be ‘pissed’ if I were to purchase $200.00 jeans.
P.S She didn’t complain when she got that $$$$$$ engagement ring!

  • Myra

I am so very excited that Cookie found a style to accommodate the cury mature women like myself but it is highly impossible for the average person to afford to purchase a pair. I would truly love to own a pair of those jeans but for a single mom; its next to impossible. I thank you for catering to the women out here with mature body types. It would also be a blessing if you can design a line of jeans that is affordable to the average woking woman. Thank you, Much Success and Many Blessings to you!!!

  • Demetria

i am a single mom of 2. would love a pair. But the price is so high. I mean this is the MJ of Jeans. Hey can you please make something for us struggling moms with BOOTAY!!! I am a BC Survivor I would pay 60.00 ish for something great cause i got this new body and all but 151.00 just can’t do it.

  • Benita Brown

Hi, I saw the Oprah show and really loved your jeans. I would like to know if the boyfriend jeans are available in South Africa or if I can buy on line. I wear a size 48 (South African Sizes).

  • Valerie

The price is way to high for normal people I quess she was only thinking about the rich & famous. We would love to buy these jeans. Why don’t they ever think about the average people. They would make more money if we could afford them as well.

  • Nana

Go get PZI jeans!! Someone else on here already mentioned the brand. They were one of the first companies to concentrate on women with curves, and they’ve gotten it right!! http://www.pzijeans.com

  • Nana

Just thought I should add, I’m not “hating” on Cookie Johnson’s line, but the average woman wearing jeans on a Saturday is not going to be willing to pay out $200 for them.I know lots of research went into creating these jeans; however, they seem to be out of touch with the “mass” consumer. PZI jeans are wayyyy more reasonably priced and look just as great as these, without comprising style, fabric, or fit.
