Say Hello Again To Beauty Loot You Thought Went Buh-Bye

ShopSmart Magazine, published by Consumer Reports, is keen to the loyalist's beauty dilemma of having their favorite makeup items taken off the shelves. A May feature about finding discontinued makeup, skincare, and fragrances proves to be a handy tool for tracking down hard-to-find goods that have been cruelly bumped from shelves to make room for new stuff. Below are some of their tips:

1. Try (or stalk) the manufacturer first.

Estee Lauder brands, including Clinique and Prescriptives, has a Gone But Not Forgotten program where you can snatch up products discontinued within the past two years. Many manufacturer websites also have last chance alerts so you know when to stock up.

2. Browse retailers that specialize in hard-to-find items.

Makeup.com  and beautyencounter.com all sell cosmetics that have been taken off the market. You'll have to do a little digging to find out which sites carry your preferred brands, but when you do find your must-haves, you'll likely get them at a big-time discount.

SheFinds also hunted down buymebeauty.com and stuff4beauty.com (which stocks discontinued hair products and can even request they track down your product).

3. Replicate the color.

Another option is to have your makeup replicated by a company like makeup artist standby Three Custom Color. They'll duplicate the tone, texture and effects of your favorite color cosmetics and have a catalogue of cosmetic formulas that dates back more than 70 years.
