The Top First Lady Looks

In honor of Carla Bruni and Queen Rania’s recent time spent at the UN in New York in advance of the G-20 summit, we’ve put together some of the top first lady – or H.R.H. Princess – looks out there (in addition to Bruni and the Queen of Jordan, Michelle Obama and Princess Letizia of Spain top our list).

Be warned: fitted sheaths and waist-defining dresses abound.  The a-line sack need not apply when it comes to these (impeccably put-together) women.

  • The First Lady wears a shorter, trendier dress by Jason Wu than the one she donned for Barack Obama’s inauguration.

  • Here Mrs. O dons a fun, floral Moschino dress.

  • She sticks with her now signature ballet flats, but Carla Bruni still looks completely put together in this black skirt suit and structured handbag.

  • She may have banned denim from the French first couple’s wardrobes, but Bruni looks great in this laid-back, crisp white shirt dress on Bastille Day.

  • Princess Letizia of Spain gives a nod to her countryman in this sheath from Felipe Varela.

  • It’s a far cry from jeans and a tee, but when you’re Spain’s First Lady, keeping casual wear in keeping with something Coco Chanel would approve of seems pretty appropriate.

  • Queen Rania looks perfectly put together to be walking along with Pope Benedict XVI (and we love her chainstrap bag.)

  • This Giambattista Valli gown fits Queen Rania to a tee, as does her sleek black hairband.

  • Queen Rania and Michelle Obama meet.

  • Carla Bruni and Princess Letizia give the best air kisses.

  • Obama and Bruni don similar white sheath dresses – Bruni’s is, of course, Dior.

  • Obama and Bruni meet in Paris.

  • Princess Letizia and Bruni look pretty much perfect entering a state building in France.

  • Carla Bruni and Princess Rania look belted and chic at a Global Fund reception in New York.
