Trend We’ll Skip: Doc Martens Slaps A Necklace On A Combat Boot, Calls It High-End

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Doc Martens, Subversive Jewelry designer Justin Giunta has created four one-of-a-kind boots to be sold at Art Basel Miami this week in the fair’s high-end vending machine (at $1400, we’re guessing it doesn’t accept dollar bills).  In theory, the idea of a marriage between a punked-out jewelry giant plus the ’90s grunge staple sounds sort of cool, but something about the, uh, actual ball and the chain not only conjures up metaphors for a bad relationship, but it reminds us of a tricked out prison ankle monitor. We’re all for experimentation, but we can’t be tied down by this trend.

Dolce Vita’s peep toe, suede lace up booties that are sexy in kind of a buttoned-up Victorian way. We also like Jeffrey Campbell’s flat oxford with its vintage inspired goldtone buckle embellishment.

Want more? We’ve got plenty more lovely choices in our guides to the best booties, oxfords and necklaces–unattached to the boots, of course.
