After a slightly disappointing turn on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, we were slightly nervous to see whether or not the SAG Awards would show an increase in the glamour or continue to go the way of the economy. We were pleasantly surprised: total style upgrade! Here are some of the hot trends and one misfire we’re still pondering well into our lunch hour:

Noteworthy Design Trend: Halter Necklines. In an interesting contrast to the statement necklace of previous red carpets, the neckline of the dress became the statement-maker. Working this trend beautifully last night were Taraji P. Henson in Herve Leroux, January Jones in Andrew Gn, and Olivia Wilde in Ralph Lauren.

Noteworthy Color Trend: Punch-Bright Colors. We have to hand it to two actresses who showed up in vibrant, beautifully cut gowns. Christina Applegate in Emmanuel Ungaro and Eva Longoria in Jenny Packham looked stunning in citrus hues.

Continuing Color Trend: Patriotic Sweep. In what appears to be a continuation of Obama-Mania, there were quite a few red, white, and blue dresses on the carpet. Showing their love were Lisa Edelstein in Reem Acra, Anne Hathaway in Azzaro, and Kate Winslet in Narciso Rodriguez.
These are trends we can definitely get behind. Adopting these looks for your own wardrobes will be elegant and easy. This Marc Bouwer GlamIt Emerald Satin Jeweled Halter Gown ($475) is a beautiful way to copy the halter look. If it’s patriotic flair you seek, you can’t go wrong in red with this Faviana Gown ($248.) As far as punchy colors, this is a trend that will take you from now through the spring and summer months, so go for yellow in this Phoebe Couture Bead Chiffon Dress ($123.90).

Finally….A Cry for Help: America Ferrara in Vera Wang. When Ugly Betty showed up in this Vera Wang monstrosity, we wondered if she had bought it off the rack… from Vera's line at Kohl's.
