We knew the cut-out look was going to be big, but until this week, we didn’t know just how big (and how strange) the slits and tears would be. On the runways and in the galleries, we spotted a ton of skin in odd (and outside the fashion world, universally unflattering) places. Have the wacko designers we love finally lost it? Most non-models wouldn’t look so hot in these designs from Alexander Wang and Max Azria, and you can just forget about finding proper under garments to wear with these dresses; however, we definitely think this trend has some potential, if you tone it down a bit and cover up just a little.
With slight cut-outs that are placed just above the love handles and with a flattering A-line shape, this sexy dress from Rachel Pally ($198) is tasteful and chic.
You don’t have to be a twig to show a little skin your back; we like the artsy spider web shape of the cut-outs on this fitted Silence & Noise tunic ($48).
With an oversized blouse and some trendy platforms, many a regular sized lady could pull of this torn pair from David Lerner ($99).
